Everyone talks about digital transformation. Digital transformation is urgent and here to stay, but it is only one part of the equation in transforming a business. Currently, we have few tools to redesign businesses and strategies based on the principles of design thinking and agile experimentation.
There are multiple tools to define a business model and strategy, but there are no clear processes on how to reinvent that business and strategy when the internal or external situation of the organization requires it. Design thinking has made a great contribution in this field, but there is a need for other tools and processes designed to work on strategic and abstract issues such as a company’s business model.
Business Transformation Process
The BTC is one of the many necessary tools to explore new directions for the business within the BT Process. When we talk about business transformation, we are referring to both internal and external changes. With the BTC, we will focus on business changes in terms of strategy, rather than culture, which is undoubtedly a key part of the Business Transformation Process.

What you will learn
The first section of the BTC focuses on the exploration of current users and the value we are providing to them, as well as new users and the potential value we could provide to them.
Exploring new markets and products/services that add value in those markets is one of the foundations for creating innovative strategies. As early as 1957, Igor Ansoff published an excellent article called “Strategies for Diversification” in the Harvard Business Review.
With the help of Visual Thinking, we can integrate innovation levels into the matrix to understand where to focus the company’s innovation efforts.
It is a radically different way of designing organizational strategy. In classic strategic design, we analyze what exists and based on that, make predictions about the future, aiming to be as close to reality as possible, in order to arrive at ONE correct plan.
Tools of the BT Process
There is much more to transforming a business than just filling in the blocks of a canvas. In the BT Process, we have defined a series of steps and tools that support the application of a strategy based on innovation.
Framework
The BTC provides a practical framework for addressing uncertain contexts. Only a few organizations truly manage to create a culture of innovation, and even fewer incorporate principles of agile exploration, design thinking, and prototyping in the design of new business strategies.
